Why? Crazy how a three letter word sparks so much curiosity. I remember being little at that particular age where all I asked someone was why. Half to be annoying but half because I was genuinely curious about what the person was talking about. I’ve been using this curiosity to really figure out what I want to do. College was a four year bubble where I accomplished a lot but now that I finished I’m realizing I left something important on the back burner: my dream to work in the music industry and Vibe With Ade is just the beginning.
Post-graduation life
I recently graduated Arizona State with a degree in marketing and just moved to Austin to work as an apprentice in digital marketing. I have always been someone that thinks analytically and creatively, so I want to blend my world of marketing and music together. With the help of a friend and a conversation over sushi I’m reminded of asking “why?” as he asked me “why?”. Why did I move to Austin? So I could gain experience and add to my portfolio in digital marketing. Why? I really like digital marketing and want to get good at it. Why? So I can prove myself as an asset to a potential employer in the music industry. Why? Music is important to me and with the digital space changing I think my expertise can be of value. He stopped after that.
The conversation stuck with me for a while and on a day I was driving home from work another three letter question popped in my head. “How?” How am I going to position myself as valuable to the music industry with very little music experience besides being able to play piano, knowledge of the industry, event planning experience and being a lover of concerts and music festivals? I have the marketing component to my “why?” but not the music component. How can I show that I know what I am talking about?
Vibe With Ade
This is when “Vibe With Ade” came to mind. I moved to Austin for a digital marketing apprenticeship so my mind has been buzzing with how I can market myself as well as fill a need in the market. As an outsider to the industry, I want to insert myself into the conversation. So many people I follow on Twitter and Instagram inserted themselves into whatever industry they desired by the content that they deliver and the brand they have created.
This blog is for me to talk about my love of music and the experiences that come along with it. I have also found there isn’t anything quite like it. I always found myself spending hours online searching for the content I think would be available. Unable to find content on how to prepare for my first big festival (kind of blindly dove in head first) or what websites are best for festival clothing. My hope for this blog can provide answers to people similar to me. I also find myself wanting to just nerd out and have a conversation about an artist’s new album, but not very many people to talk with.
Do I think Vibe With Ade is going to be my ticket into the industry? No, but it will at least help in my credibility. Maybe people will think this is weird, maybe this is dumb and no one will read it (besides my parents hi mom and dad I love you guys), maybe I’ll get nowhere with it and give up but it’s worth giving a shot. I’m 22 years old and life is too short to not at least try.
If you came this far, thanks so much I really appreciate it. Look forward to some more content like music festival reviews, festival tips, and more coming soon! Hit the subscribe button to stay up-to-date with Ade 🙂
