I have been wanting to write this piece for so long. As someone who is constantly going to festivals, buying outfits for every single one can definitely add up. Since one of my goals is to save more money this year, I am figuring out where I can cut back and that is in my festival clothes. Here are some tips on how to repurpose festival outfits.
Tip 1: Buy the Basics
Some basics that you can stock up your closet are with bodysuits, bottoms and tops. I usually lean towards black because it’s slimming and you can make so many looks from it.
For the EDM festival goer:
iHeartRaves is really great when it comes to these basics. You can use VIBEWITHADE for extra 10% off.
My latest favorite basic that I have been wearing is a black mesh top. I bought a mesh long top (like a t-shirt dress) and a crop mesh top from Forever 21 that has gotten SO much use. If you see below I just found different bralettes or bottoms to pair with.
For my non-EDM festival goers, Forever 21 is usually my go-to because you can buy basics for relatively cheap price. I did this with this white floral bodysuit I wore at Coachella, I wore to ACL just paired with different shorts.
If you stock up your closet with a variety of basics you can then mix match with what you already have and create so many different looks. You can also add a statement piece to these basics to switch it up.
Tip 2: Mix-Match Outfit Pieces
Take a look at your previous outfits, can you take a top from one outfit and match with some fun shorts from another one? Most likely yes. If you take the image out of your head of what you have already worn, you let yourself open up to so much more creativity in making new outfits. Since I have now stocked up of what I have accumulated over the past two years, I am really going to start mix and matching different items together. My Beyond and EDC outfits will definitely be from previous outfits I’ve created.
Tip 3: Treat Yourself to One New Piece
This is for when you still get that inkling to spend money on an outfit for an event. For Decadence, I treated myself to a custom made body suit from this Etsy shop called, Cosmic Soul Designs. I got it in black so I could pair it with anything and I have every intention to wear it multiple times. You can treat yourself every now and then add it to the mix of what you would later on pair with another piece. You know how to spend within your means to #treatyoself.
Tip 4: Sell or Trade Festival Clothing
You can use Poshmark and social media to sell old festival pieces and get some money to put towards other clothes. You can also set-up a trade community within your friends or on Facebook to trade or borrow different pieces that they have. Let me know if you want to be added to one (shoutout my friend Rachel for starting one!). This helps keeps it fresh without breaking the bank.
Get yourself out of the mindset that you are outfit repeating, because you aren’t! You are just reconfiguring new outfits out of what you had. Also who really notices that or cares, be comfortable in what you want to wear and rock your next festival!
