Feeling hesitant about sending it to your next festival because you’d have to go alone? No need to stress. Going to a music festival alone is one of the most freeing and independent experiences you’ll ever have. I’ve been to a couple of festivals solo and it was great to be in charge of my experience and to meet others at festivals. It is such an exciting experience, it will just require some planning on your part to ensure the best experience possible.
Planning for the Festival
Once you’ve chosen what festival you want to attend, now comes the fun part of planning all the logistics. We’ll cover all things from transportation to lodging in this section to make this as smooth and seamless as possible.
How to Get There
Determine how you’re going to travel to the festival. If it’s closer to you then you might not have to plan as much. If you’re able to make the drive if it’s a farther distance that is an option. If you’re going to fly, try and book your flights as soon as possible. I’m a Southwest kind of gal through and through and have a credit card with them so I can earn points for flights. There are certain apps like Hopper and Expedia where you can try to find the best deal on flights.
Where to Stay
There are a couple of options as to where you can stay and how to plan your stay.
Hotel
You can book a hotel room for one! This can get pricey depending on location and where you’re staying, but you can try to find one that fits your budget on booking sites like Expedia or Hotels.com.
Hostel
Depending on location, there could be hostels that are perfect for solo travelers. Just do a quick Google search of “hostels in [city name]” and see what you could find.
Meet Roost
Another great option is to find a roommate to split the cost of your hotel room with. Meet Roost. Roost helps travelers find their ideal roommate/rave buddy and cut their hotel bill in half.
It works kind of like Hotwire where you reserve a class of hotel (2, 3, 4-star) and choose a neighborhood near the venue you want to stay in. Then you can view profiles of all your potential roommates going to the festival. Filter roommate profiles by sex, age, rating and other personal preferences and read reviews from past roommates to find your ideal roommate. Once you choose a roommate, 50% of your payment will be refunded to your card and you’ll find out the exact name of your hotel. You’ll always have your own bed in well-known chain hotels, no creepy motels. Then coordinate check-in with your roommate and have a great stay and time at the festival.
They also just launched a really cool new feature called “List your stay”. If you already booked a hotel or Airbnb you can find roommates to fill any empty beds and actually get paid for it.
I think Roost is a super great option if you’re trying to stay within a budget and want some company. You can always choose how independent you want to be with your roommate and decide if you’re just looking for someone to split the cost with, or if you’re looking to meet a rave buddy. Roost also prioritizes safety to make sure that it will be an enjoyable experience for both parties.

Transportation To and From the Festival
One last thing to determine is how you’ll get to the festival. Figure out if you’ll need to drive, take a rideshare, walk, etc. Having a game plan ahead of time can allow you to plan for if you need to get there early or leave early in case there’s traffic.
Overall Safety
The last thing to plan for is ensuring overall safety. I know safety is a big concern for a lot of people so making sure you have a game plan can help you feel confident and secure going to the festival. I always share my location with friends and family and I’ll let them know where I’m staying, where the festival is at and how I’m getting there. I’ll check in with them throughout the weekend so they’re aware of where I am and what I’m doing. The festival also has tons of resources on-site for you if you are ever feeling overwhelmed or not safe. Reach out to medic or security if you ever have any issues. Safety is a huge priority so stay safe and always be aware of your surroundings.
I hope this helps my solo ravers and festival goers in feeling confident and excited to attend their next festival. Reach out to me if you have any questions!
