For the past two years Global has been hosted at our Bronco (football) stadium parking lot. Last year it moved from our infamous Red Rocks Amphitheater. Although everyone was skeptical of the move, it exceeded expectations. There is no doubt Red Rocks is hands down one of the most beautiful venues in the world, but Global was ready to expand and embark a new journey. Now Global has more space for extra stages and rides. Global dance took place over Friday and Saturday (20th & 21st of July). I couldn’t miss Global because it holds a special place in my heart. My first event/rave was Global 2007 when it was just one day at Red Rocks. I have attended every year since, and seen the world’s best DJs throughout the years at Global. Although I have been to some of the best festivals all over the country Global is home to me. It’s small, but intimate and offers a great experience like any other festival. And with a lineup with Tiesto, Claude Vonstroke, Flux b2b Doctor P, Deadmau5, and Illenium B2B Said the Sky how could I not want to go?
Overall Experience of Global CO
My overall experience of Global was great! Sadly it flew by wayyy to fast, but I would redo it again if I could. I felt no bad vibes all weekend, which I know was the biggest worry of attendees since rap was added to the lineup. Friday even with the rap on the lineup I felt like it was nothing, but “ravers”. Saturday was more of a mixed crowd, but the vibes were still great! I thought it was a nice change to have a variety of music. I have bought VIP the last two years and it is definitely worth it. You get your own private lounge area with nice bathrooms and a separate bar. In the lounge, you also have about two dozen daybeds and couches if you need to come sit and take a break. There is very little room to sit outside of VIP, just a strip of grass between the stages and some benches near the food truck. With VIP, you get to be in front of the main stage separated from GA. The main stage has some fireworks, nothing like EDC obviously, but it’s always nice to have fireworks. Global also allows totems so it was fun seeing what everyone came up with! The only downside of Global is that it ends at 11 pm. The only nice thing about that is that it’s early enough to hit the clubs, but the clubs in Colorado close at 2 am. This year was also the first year they made a “Global week”, with special guest Wednesday to Sunday at a few of our EDM clubs. So for people coming out of town you can make a week of it.
Outfit Details
Friday I dressed more in a rave look! I took it back old school and wore a tutu! I dressed as a unicorn basically decked out in glitter (of course)!
Saturday I was more casual I wore shorts with a lace bodysuit. There was a wide range of outfits, some people went all out in full rave attire, and some did not even dress up at all. I think that is the great thing about Global, it’s also a good mixture of attire so whether you want to dress up or dress regular you won’t stand out.
Favorite Sets from The Weekend
My favorite set from the weekend was Tiesto, which sounds so mainstream but he THREW DOWN! He was tearing the crowd up. Another great set was Claude Vonstroke on the Amazon stage, I was disappointed how empty the stage was for such a legend, but Denver is all about Dubstep. Riot 10 really had the crowd going wild on another level. Illenium B2B Said the Sky really had everyone up in their feelings, it was beautiful to see the whole crowd singing together. Since Illenium currently lives in Denver, we have a huge fan base for him in Colorado. On the rap side Future was my favorite, but I get I am bias since I am a Future fan. It was nice being able to catch some rap sets too.
Global Dance Festival 2019?
I would do it again, and will. For anyone who has never been to Global before, I say go! It’s probably smaller than other festivals you’ve been to, but the vibe is great and Colorado is beautiful so if you are coming from out of town there is plenty to do. Global also is located right at the heart of Denver just touching the edge of downtown so you get a full Denver experience. With a variety of music there is definitely artists for everyone!! And if you love bass you’re in for one hell of a treat, I’ll argue that Denver is the bass capital until I die. I suggest if you are coming buy presale, it’s super cheap. Get VIP if you can afford it, it is worth every penny believe me! Especially if you are older like me, you get away from the kiddos and get to be around a older crowd. You won’t leave without making new friends either, I can’t tell you have many people I met! I hope this gave you a little taste of what Global is like and convinced you to come to my city for Global 2019! 🙂
Hugeeeee shoutout and love to Olivia for this review!!! I know I need to make it out to Denver soon to meet this real life unicorn and experience the music scene there. Checkout Olivia on Twitter and Instagram and show her some love!
