Wow one whole year that I lived in Austin which is absolutely crazy to me. I actually visited Austin for the first time two years ago while I was interning in Dallas. My friend Katie, Karis and I decided on a whim we’d visit Austin for a weekend. I really didn’t know what was ahead as the only thing I knew about Austin was “Keep Austin Weird”. What was a weekend spent on Dirty Sixth and getting to know the city and I had a blast. It wasn’t until I was looking for jobs after I graduated college in Arizona that my mom asked me “Why don’t you look in Austin you had fun there?” One LinkedIn search led me to Austin and this past year has been the craziest, most fun and inspiring years of my life.
Moving away from home challenges you in ways I never imagined but it’s also so refreshing. If I hadn’t moved to Austin, I would’ve never started this blog. I would’ve stayed comfortable in my ways. People ask me when I’ll move back home or how long I’ll be in Austin and I have no idea. You know you’ve found a place that you can make feel like home when you don’t know when you’re going to leave. I’ve found my tribe, I’ve found my passions and I’ve found myself again. I am extremely excited for the future.
Enough of the mushy stuff I wanted to share my favorite things about Austin as well for anyone who wants to visit, check it out.
Favorite Restaurant: Ramen Tatsuya
THE BEST RAMEN I HAVE EVER HAD
Favorite Pizza: Home Slice & Via 313
Money can’t buy you happiness but it sure comes close with these pizza places.
Favorite Tacos: Torchy’s Tacos
Get a trailer park taco and make it trashy with some chips and queso…thank me later.
Favorite Ice Cream: Amy’s
Go to the one on South Congress and you’ll see the famous “I love you so much” wall.
Favorite Brewery: Friends & Allies
Beer, games, and dogs it’s so Austin and so great to chill with friends.
Favorite Coffee Shop: Cosmic Coffee
Discovered this gem a couple weeks ago, part coffee shop, part bar, and a great vibe.
Favorite Bar: Icenhauer’s
Sunday funday is not complete without a sangria from Icenhauer’s
Best Brunch: Grizzelda’s
I’m still thinking about those Dulce de Leche pancakes.
Favorite Music Venue: Kingdom & Emo’s
Kingdom is closing but it was my first show in Austin 🙁 Such an intimate vibe that will be missed. Emo’s is also a great venue I’ve seen many artists there and the space itself is great, lots of room to dance and great production always.
Favorite Workout: RIDE
I did spin back in Arizona and was worried I wouldn’t find a studio I liked and I was wrong. Alana plays all my favorite EDM jams and I leave class very sweaty and rejuvenated.
Here is a vlog to celebrate and to launch my first series called “Vibin With Ade” to show you my life outside of festivals. Enjoy!
I am excited to live and grow in this city and discover new places and pieces of myself. Here’s to year two!!
